CAFFREYS CREAM ALE

topic posted Fri, June 17, 2005 - 1:38 AM by  Unsubscribed
Word is that Caffreys is no longer in the USA. That it is only available in the UK/Europe. I had PLENTY of it on tap in San Francisco a year ago and the bars visited didn't know what I was talking about when I said it was hard to get...

Is it or isn't it impossible to get here? Does anyone know how I can buy it here in the USA? How can I get it otherwise? Damn, it's me second favourite ale next to Guinness. I gotta get me some Caffreys!

YAY! I look forward to whatever distribution info you can bestow.
Somehow it's comforting that you'll have a few on my behalf.

Was at a pub in San Mateo, they stopped serving Caffreys on tap, too small a consumption..though they did have it in cans
The local does not have it either, though the bar staff did not know why....ominous

Yeah, I know what you mean....I have gone to many bars and asked if they had caffrey's and they would look at me like i was insane or something....anyways, the couple of places (irish bars primarily) that used to carry it no longer due. I was told its because they no longer import it to the US and I also heard that they completely stopped making it....either way....can't find it:(

If anyone gets some more info..keep us posted!

          Cheers!

Caffreys is still being made, but from what we have all heard, they no longer import it in kegs. I saw cans in either Safeway or Albertsons a few days ago.. and like I said earlier the brit pub still sold cans..cheers.
-Of course New Castle is my fave!!

As far as I know, Caffrey's is no longer imported in the US. The distributor decided to opt for a bigger name blah brand of beer to import in lieu of the specialty, and quite excellent, Caffrey's. That was my beer of choice at my local brewhouse. But not anymore. If it is available in the States somehow, either keg or can/bottle, please let me know. Thanks.

GREAT THANKS for all the research. I've got to get an outlet for some. The Caffreys site has been down for at least two years always promising to be up soon. I was even put on an e-mailing list for when it would be going back on line. Hasn't. I think they really have no priority in doing so, but want the site name so they just put it under corn'strunciton.

                  Master Marmite,

The CAFFREYS website has been under construction for almost 4 years now!!!! I've been stalking it... four years ago it asked peeps to put their name on an email list that would be notified when the site was back up. It never was and I'm STILL holding my breath. If there's some CAFFREYS in local supers in San Mateo do you think they'd ship some to me? it's just county lines as I'm in San Luis Obispo. I'll stock up on it and open it like a fine DOM or a nicely aged Pinot Noir. Mr. Master Marmite, can you supply me w/ a store addy or phone or website????? I think we'd ALL like to know!

Coors bought out Caffrey's a while ago and have indicated no designs to import it again. Haven't seen it since then. Rat finks they are, buying a great beer and then halting sales of it! I told them to fire their marketing and M&A folks.

Coors acquired the Caffreys brand in 2002 when Interbrew bought Bass and was ordered by the British government to divest some of the assets under monopoly/anti-trust rules.

Caffreys was a novelty brew (starting the craze to serve processed keg bitter with a nitrogen/CO2 mix) that was well past its time. These things go in cycles, like ice beers and cold filtered lagers. They are marketed to death for a few years until a new fad comes along. Get over it - Caffreys was a sweet, insipid product. Turn on the TV and find the latest bandwagon to jump on.

It is my understanding that, unfortunately, Caffrey's in not available in the US anymore; HOWEVER, it is still available in Ontario Canada. I believe Ontario's beer sales are government regulated and can only be sold in state run "beer stores". More info is available on their web site (www.thebeerstore.ca). I'm not sure if other Canadian provinces carry it or not. I've looked in Quebec with no luck, just haven't been able to make it into Ontario to grab me a few cases to bring back. (I believe there is a limit to 2-cases per person when crossing the border). If anyone finds a company in Canada that is willing to ship Caffreys to the US, please let the board know. Hope this helps someone find the elixir of life...

O'Ryans in Windsor has it on tap. A friend of mine purchased it in Toronto as well. Nice thing about Detroit is that it is close to Canada, letting me indulge in Caffrey's.

While I could not get gifttodrink.co.uk to work, I did find www.expatdirect.co.uk. I have been searching for caffreys for 10 years, ever since I came back from Scotland. They had no problem delivering to the US.I hope it is as good as I remember. Good hunting.

I called the Coors Helpline at 1-800-642-6116 and let then know that I wanted it back. It was less than a 2 minute phone call and the service agent was very nice. She recorded my interest in Caffreys and said that they DO review the interests and urged other people to call.
