We all agreed Brothers Beer from Oakland was THE worst, smelt worse than it taste, that was bloody awful too.
A close second was McAndew's Scottish Ale, Bev Mo used to sell it, but pulled it several years back, I know why, The stuff is foul, and can only be used as paint stipper at best. -Thats if you do not mind the smell.
what you need:
salt
water
beer- or a drink in a container

put your drinks in the bed of ice, add some water and throw in a bunch of sat, its cheap so don't skimp. mix it all around and come back 5 minutes later to the coldest beer you have ever had.

make sure your beers are submerged and you have used plenty of salt!!!

Right now I am drinking Divine Reserve #3, a double IPA which has mellowed nicely in the 3 months since the release. When it first came out it was really too hoppy, and I like hops, now it is very nice.

I don't use the word pilgrimage lightly. I've had several friends from the east coast visit and when they've tried these beers it was a religious experience for them. It's fun to watch. They also have quite a few other choices which are always changing. The Icky, as its called, is by far everyone's favorite! The food at the place is decent enough, basic brew-pub fare. Unfortunately the Great Basin doesnt distribute their beer, you gotta go to the brewery itself to get it. But its worth it, they often have live music, the food is relatively inexpensive, and theres some neat gadgets you can get filled with beer, the one in particular Im thinking of is a tall, maybe 3 foot clear plastic cylinder with a tap at the bottom, which sits right on your table.
1 1/2 Gal. Raw Fireweed/Wildflower Honey
1 1/2 Gal. Raw Orange Blossom Honey
2 Oz. Dried Heather Flowers and Tips
4 Vanilla Beans
2 cups Scottish Yeast and the 2 Cups of Beer it was stored in
2 Oz.Yeast Nutrients

I tried real hard to get Heather Honey, but had no luck. Can anybody help? I'm willing to pay quite a bit of money for it to be shipped from Scotland. I've read in Buhner's Sacred And Healing Herbal Beers that Pure Heather Blossom Honey is the consistency of Jello, which may account for the confusion over whether the Ambrosia of the Gods was a solid or a liquid.
INSTRUCTIONS:

Liquify fruit in blender.
Mix together all ingredients in a large glass water jug (carboy).
Wait 6 months to 5 Years, freely sampling as it progresses!!
Repeat making recipe and sampling as necessary.

After 6 Months you can begin using Mead in your cooking. It makes a great sauce for beef, lamb, poultry, and pork. Add some cayeene pepper and some Horseradish for a great seafood dip.

This is pretty weird

Beer scheme rubs out Top End toads
Tuesday Apr 4 16:00 AEST
Some people have proposed killing toads with golf clubs and cricket bats. (File picture: AAP)

By Tim Arvier
National Nine News

Just for a moment, place yourself in the position of someone trying to stop the cane toad invasion in the Northern Territory. What innovations or methods would you use? Trapping? Poisoning? Organising community toad hunts perhaps? What about setting up an exchange program in which people can swap toads for beer?

Well, if you picked the latter option, you've chosen exactly the same scheme as some enterprising Territory businessmen and the RSPCA.

With cane toads arriving in Darwin in increasing numbers, how to dispose of the pests has become a highly publicised issue and in true Territory style, there's been no shortage of eccentric solutions floating around.

Some people, such as Federal MP David Tollner, have proposed killing toads with golf clubs and cricket bats. However, there are also people like Lindsay Wilkinson from the RSPCA, who recommends cane toads be put down by rubbing them with haemorrhoid cream. Apparently this anaesthetises the animals and induces a painless death.

While the debate continues about how to control the rampant pests, it seems those benefiting most are the local newspaper editors. In addition to crocodiles, they can now use toads to create increasingly bizarre headlines.

But where does public opinion actually lie?

Many people have taken to David Tollner's suggestions and actively hunt the pests, armed with bats and clubs. Others opt for the catch and freeze approach. Disappointingly for the RSPCA, however, few Territorians seem keen to give toads a good rub down with haemorrhoid cream. To add insult, many have said they are willing to make a limited compromise by diligently applying the cream to the ends of their golf clubs.

However, in an innovative approach, the RSPCA has teamed up with Coopers Brewery and the Cavenagh Hotel to encourage people to resist whacking cane toads over the fence. Instead, Territorians who drop off the pests at the RSPCA receive a voucher for a free pot of Coopers, redeemable at the popular Cavenagh Hotel. The toads must be alive, not hit with a nine iron beforehand.

So far, the RSPCA has exchanged 250 toads for beer vouchers in the last two weeks; which is less than they had hoped for. But, they say, that's 250 fewer toads in the wild, and 250 more cheers for the RSPCA in the pub. Not to mention 250 more toads who have been spared the golf club treatment and gone to meet their maker with a more comfortable posterior.

Has anyone discovered or heard about mixing two brews together other than your standard Black and Tan with Guiness and Bass? I recently discovered what is called Black Velvet in these parts ,which is essentially cider and Guiness. This weekend when researching the alcohol content of a tasty cherry lambic I discovered a post that suggested combing it with a Rogue chocolate stout. I had Youngs Double Chocolate Stout on hand so I tried a 50/50 lambic and stout and it was delicious cherry chocolate delight. So now I am hellbent on finding out some of what my fellow BEER DRINKER heads have tried or discovered along the way.

It’s cheaper than sending it from down under, plus because they brew it there they can still call it imported in the USA. After a number of years of not drinking it I bought a can for old times and it tasted strange not like I remembered it. After further investigation I read the fine print brewed in Canada right there on the label. No wonder the can was aluminum, anybody else notice this or think it is false advertising.

It will involve 30 American breweries, and 10 Belgian importers, all belgian style beers, plus Belgian-American food (frites, waffles, mussels, etc), live music, etc.

For more info on the event, check out www.ommegang.com.

Monkster here...Our plan so far:
We are leaving SF the morning of Saturday the 9th of July; getting to Hopland that pm to drink at Mendocino County Brewery. Then up the road to Anderson Valley (in Boonville) and Ft. Bragg and North Coast Brewery. We can stay in a town hotel/B& B for a small sum. The inn is literally within stumbling distance of N. coast.

The next morning we will be served breakfast and make our way at a leisurely pace to a choice of Marin and Sonoma stops, incl. Lagunitas, Moylan's, Bear Republic, and Russian River. We'll decide on the details later.

We'll be getting back to SF that evening, Sunday the 10th of July.

We're asking $10 apiece to hold reservations for the group. This is non-refundable if you have to back out, but any actual trip costs will be refunded if you have to bail. I understand how that goes sometimes.

Help us plan and add details at any point.
I'm cross-posting to norcal beers, too, but feel free to invite anyone else.

This is cool beer math!!!!!!!
DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute.......
Work this out as you read.

Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out! This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have a pint. (try for more than once)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be honest)

3. Add 5. (for Sunday)

4. Multiply it by 50 I'll wait while you get the calculator................

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1755.... If you haven't, add 1754 ...

6. Now subtract the four-digit year that you were born.

You should have a three-digit number

The first digit of this was your original number
(i.e., how many times you want to have a pint week).

The next two numbers are .......

YOUR AGE! ~ (Oh YES, it IS!!!!! )

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.

Remember "I" before "E", except in Budweiser.
-- Professor Irwin Corey

To some it's a six-pack, to me it's a "support group." Salvation in a can!
-- Leo Durocher

One night at Cheers, Cliff Clavin explained the "Buffalo Theory" to his buddy, Norm. "Well ya see, Norm, it's like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kll brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way,
regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the
brain a faster and more efficient machine! That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.
